This project aims to raise children’s awareness of ocean pollution and encourage them to take small actions in their daily lives to help protect the ocean. The result is a simple interactive game where players pick up debris and plastic particles by moving their hands in front of a sensor. The game is a sandbox style, meaning there are no levels, no end, and no specific goals. Instead, the game keeps going, with garbage continuously dropping.
The game lets players clean the ocean by controlling a net with their hand to remove debris and particles. Players raise their hand for Kinect recognition, and a net appears for them to control. If there are multiple players, nets are color-coded for clarity.
The game uses several metaphors:
-
A net represents the tool for cleaning debris.
-
Green particles represent plastic breaking down into microplastics.
-
The water’s brightness shows cleanliness—green water means pollution.
-
The number of fish indicates ocean health—more fish means cleaner water
The game is continuous because, in reality, trash keeps flowing into the ocean daily. Cleaning it is an ongoing challenge, and the best solution is preventing pollution in the first place.
